The RR Review: MAC Cosmetic's Patent Polish Lip Pencils

On April 3rd, MAC Cosmetics released a brand new product in 12 different shades called the Patent Polish lip pencils. Think of them as MAC's take on chubby sticks. These twist up pencils are moisterizing like a balm, long lasting like a lipstick, and glossy like a lipgloss. Can anyone say triple threat, please? MAC managed to cover all the bases with these 12 "chubby sticks" including a plethora of colors like pinks, reds, berry colored shades, a nude, a purple, and a coral!

After swatching every single one of the twelve at the store and then trying on more than half, I settled on Go for Girlie (a light, semi shimmery pink) and Teen Dream (a coral shade).

Personally, I didn't expect much from these and had only originally planned on buying one of the shades just for the sake of getting this product up on my blog and knowledge of it out to you guys. I am a lover of matte lipsticks and grew out of my lipgloss phase about two years ago. I have never been a fan of tinted lip balms, either. I mean, why use one when I can just wear plain lip balm. And if it's a day where I wear makeup, I'm not going to want to wear just a lipbalm, I'll put on lipstick. But to each their own, right?

Anyways, I am now a big fan of these Patent Polish lip pencils. I think I'm going to go back and grab a few more, actually!  They seriously last all day (minus those times when you chow down on pizza during your lunch break at work), keep your lips moisterized, and supply a great pop of color. I would definitely wear these in place of lipstick. The finish on all 12 is glossy, but not sticky at all. If MAC would reformulate and come out with a few matte shades sometime in the future, these would be even better than they already are. I highly suggest picking one up for yourself; I believe I paid 24$ (Canadian) and not including tax for each one.

Another thing I really like about these are that they are all ages friendly. Older women can certainly pull these off and younger girls. This product is actually perfect for younger girls in my opinion because clearly they don't need to be strutting around wearing full on lipsticks like Cyber and Ruby Woo, but if they are little and already like makeup and want to try wearing something other than lightly colored gloss, then these are great! All the shades are more or less fairly soft, but still provide ample color and they're easy to just swipe on (perfect for a kid who doesn't know how to precisely apply lipstick)! I even told my mom how perfect these would be for my younger sister... and I never encourage her to wear makeup! These pencils are fun, but not bold—which pretty much make them a solid product for just about anyone!

After writing this post, I just totally sold myself even more on this product! I think I'm going to pick up another one, or maybe two, (or three!) tomorrow for sure now. These deserve the full 10/10, I see no flaws in these wonderful lip pencils and I absolutely love them!

I really want to know if any of you happen to go get one so let me know if you do! I think everyone should, they're just so lovely! Ah, I'm so excited over these!

Xoxo,
Russian Red.
