My best friend, Monet (aka as Momo), and our Swiss friend—who for our purposes, will be referred to as "Swedish Berries"— were assigned to photograph a character from Alice in Wonderland and photoshop them into a background in correlation with our school play this year... which is obviously Alice in Wonderland. Being a red head, they asked me to be the Red Queen for them. Actually, the entire time Swedish Berries was photographing me, he thought I was Alice. Which makes sense now that I look back on it since he kept putting flowers in my hair and making me hold baskets filled with more flowers. Uh, I have no idea what Switzerland is teaching their kids about Alice in Wonderland, but tha's alright! So I guess there was some miscomunication between Momo and Swedish Berries on which character they wanted to use.
I modeled my makeup after this variation of the Red Queen from Disney's film:
Because I had to actually attend school today, I couldn't exactly paint my face white, draw on thin black brows, and give myself a beauty mark. So I went with a more "I'm not some circus freak" adaptation of the look.

| Eyes: MAC Antonio Lopez 6-Shadow Palette in Teal, MAC Pearl Glide Eyeliner in Industrial Brows: MAC Folie Shadow with Anastasia brow gel |
Brows: MAC Folie eyeshadow with Anastasia's brow gel. Can I just say I'm IN LOVE with my brows today? They're so strong and dark and they look amazing in the photos we took! Because I couldn't draw my brows on as thin and black, I tried to really darken them with my shadow in Folie and keep them very hard, I didn't soften them out as much as I usually do on a daily basis. I then highlighted my brow bones with my MAC Vanilla pigment.
Eyes: I used the blue shadow from my 6-shadow MAC Antonio Lopez palette in Teal all over my lid. I really layered it on to get that super rich, bright, pigmented shock of blue. On top of my shadow, I took my MAC Pearl Glide liner in Industrial and applied it to my creases and then used my finger to smudge it into the crease and up towards my brow bone a bit. I tight lined my upper lids and lined my lower lids with my MAC Smolder eyeliner and finished off with my MAC In Extreme Dimension 3D Black Lash mascara.
Lips: Okay, if you ever have the spontaneous impulse to draw your lips in the shape of a heart with lipstick? DO NOT DO IT. NEVER EVER EVER. For one, it looks ridiculous and like you're making pouty, kissy faces at everyone. On my way home, I was holding some groceries and in the elevator, I held a baguette in front of my face. I probably looked like a freak anyways, but I didn't need that old guy seeing what looked like poorly applied lipstick. No thanks. Secondly, it's harder than you think to draw a heart over your lips with lipstick. I'm serious. I patted my Yves St. Laurent Touche Éclat concealer/highlighter on my lips to conceal them and give me a blank canvas to work on and then used my lip brush to draw the heart outline and then to fill it in with my Matte Russian Red lipstick from MAC. It was pretty disastrous, to be honest. My first attempt was awful and then I came home and redid it before I took photos of the look. Guys don't judge me, it was hard, okay?
Cheeks: I contoured my cheeks with my MAC Pro Longwear Blush in Baby Don't Go and then dusted on my mineralized skin finish in Stereo Love, also MAC, and finished with a little bit of my Vanilla Pigment to give a bit more highlight.
All in all, my brows I'm in love with, I'm always a huge fan of my Antonio Lopez palette, and the heart shaped lips make me want to cut my lips off... never try this at home, kids. The heart shape, not the cutting of the lips. But ya know, that's never a good thing either... so just don't try either of the two, got it?
Let me know what you think of my school-appropriate-so-I-don't-look-weird-and-or-freaky take on the Red Queen's look from Alice in Wonderland!
Xoxo,
Russian Red.
